During the 1990s, significant attention
was given to the rising cost of hospital based healthcare that
resulted in market and government pressure on the cost of medical
devices. Vista Dental's forerunner, Inter-Med, was formed for the purpose of establishing
medical device contract manufacturing opportunities, supported
by low-cost, offshore manufacturing facilities.
Inter-Med’s initial business venture involved
the manufacture and distribution of intravenous infusion pump
sets for the alternate care and home healthcare market. Significant
time, effort and financial resources were expended to establish
China-based manufacturing that complied with FDA, cGMP
and AAMI sterilization standards. These steps led to Inter-Med's shipping of sterile
IV sets for the U.S. market in October 1996.
Recognizing the dental market potential and
production synergy between medical and dental products, Inter-Med
(in 1997) began to penetrate the dental supply market. The initial
goal: produce quality assured dental products with functionally
superior clinical results while providing significant margin
improvement opportunities to end users and dealer partners.
In 1997, Vista Dental Products was officially
created as an active business unit of Inter-Med, Inc. The primary
goal of Vista Dental is the development of a broad line of dental
equipment and disposable products that will lead to the establishment
of Vista Dental as a leading producer of brand name merchandise.
Today Vista Dental designs, manufactures, packages
and distributes more than 300 cataloged items. In addition to dozens
of trademarks, the company owns more than two dozen patents and
patent pending applications related to a wide variety of unique
dental devices and innovative equipment.
Although initially dependent on its facilities
in China for manufacturing, today, more than 50% of Vista’s
products are manufactured and packaged in its facility in Racine, Wisconsin.
Since its beginning in 1997, Vista has maintained
a 28% average annual growth. This outstanding rate is the result of its “Mountains Above the Rest”
commitment to quality, creative product development, and the hard
work and impassioned commitment of employees dedicated to the
following concept of “Winning Processes."
